WHAT IS NRL HUNTER?
It is a precision shooting discipline that simulates real-world hunting conditions and requires shooters to locate, identify and hit animal-shaped targets at various distances, in a natural environment, without first knowing their exact location.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can participate?
Hunters with a valid gun license and a regular membership of the NRL Hunter Italy ASD can participate in the competitions.
Is it necessary to have a custom rifle?
No. The Factory division is designed to be able to use factory rifles.
How is the "Power Factor" calculated?
Power Factor equals the bullet weight in grains multiplied by the velocity in feet per second (B x V = Power Factor). For example, a 140 grain bullet traveling at 2800 fps = 392,000 would be above the minimum required power factor of 380,000.
What is the specific weight limit for each division?
The weight limit for each division includes everything mounted on the rifle, except the magazine and ammunition. This includes the scope, bipod, or any other accessory you wish to use on the rifle during the competition.
What is the recommended equipment?
The purpose of these competitions is to give you the opportunity to test out the gear you would bring on a hunt. So, a basic list of gear would include a backpack, a shooting stand, binoculars and/or spotting scope, a rangefinder, a sling, and clothing appropriate for the location you will be competing in.
What is the format of each internship?
All stages are "blind", meaning you will not be able to see the targets until you arrive at the exercise. The Range Officer will provide a brief description of the exercise and a rough indication of the target locations (left and right lateral limits). You will have a set time (4 minutes for a single hunter and 6 minutes for a pair of hunters) to deploy all your equipment, locate, range and engage the target(s).
How do I know which targets to look for?
When you go to the waiting area of each stage you will find a short description of the exercise.
What is the average distance of the targets?
The average distance of the targets will be between 300 and 500 meters, however targets can be placed at a minimum distance of 100 meters and a maximum of 900 meters.
What is the average target size?
The average size of the targets is approximately 30cm x 30cm, representing the vital area of most large Italian animals.
